Department of Defense Information Assurance Scholarships

West Virginia was awarded three scholarships that began in the Fall of 2002. We have several students who are under consideration for scholarships which will start in Fall of 2003.

For Undergraduate Students:
Each fellowship will cover full tuition, fees and books for one year while the the recipient pursues an BS degree in Forensic Identification with a major in Biometric Systesm, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Statistics. Students are expected to take technical electives in areas related to Biometrics and/or Information Assurance, if possible, during the year.
The fellowship also pays a monthly stipend, presently totalling $10,000 for the academic year.
The recipient is obligated to work for a specific Department of Defense agency, selected by DoD, for a 640 hour internship and for one year after graduate for each year on the scholarship. Note that part or all of the internship hours may be done while on campus during weekends and school holidays, instead of during the summer. However, the recipient must work these details out with their technical mentor at the DoD agency to which they have been assigned.
Eligibility:
1. Be have at least a junior-level status at West Virginia University
2. Must be currently working towards a degree in:
a) Forensic Identification
with a major in Biometric Systems
b) Computer Engineering
c) Computer Science
d) Electrical Engineering
e) Statistics
3. Must have and sustain a GPA of 2.5/4.0 or greater
4. Be a US citizen
5. Be capable of getting a security clearance (for instance, not having
any felony convictions, not using illegal substances, etc).
For Graduate Students:
Each fellowship will cover full tuition, fees and books for one year while the the recipient pursues an MS or Ph.D. degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Statistics. Students must select the Biometrics/Information Assurance emphasis area (which should be available in Fall 2003). Selection of any other emphasis area for their degree program must meet the approval of the Scholarship for Service advisor.

4. Be a US citizen
5. Be capable of getting a security clearance (for instance, not having
