Admission Requirements

Admission to the College of Engineering and Mineral Resources is based on a combination of high school grade-point average (unweighted 4.0 scale) and ACT or SAT scores. The following list summarizes the admission requirements.

Engineering Majors, West Virginia or Out-Of-State

  • HS GPA 3.0
  • ACT Composite 24
  • ACT Math 27
  • SAT Total 1110
  • SAT Math 620

General Engineering Majors, West Virginia or Out-Of-State

  • HS GPA 2.5
  • ACT Composite 22
  • ACT Math 23
  • SAT Total 1030
  • SAT Math 540

Out of State with 2.25 to 4.00

  • ACT Composite 20
  • ACT Math 24
  • SAT Total 950
  • SAT Math 520

In addition, students must have high school credits for:

  • Four units of English (including grammar, composition, and literature).
  • Three units of social studies (including U.S. history).
  • Three units of college preparatory mathematics (algebra I and II and geometry).
  • Two units of laboratory sciences (including physics, chemistry, biology, or other laboratory courses).
