A message from Department Chair Brian Woerner

I would like to welcome you to the website for the Lane Department of Computer Science & Electrical Engineering at West Virginia University. I invite you to explore our web pages to learn about some of the activities in the department.

Some of the highlights that you will find are:
  • Exceptional educational offerings encompassing biometric identification systems, communications, computer forensics and information assurance, digital control, gaming and virtual reality, nanotechnology, power systems, signal and image processing, software engineering, and theoretical computer science.
  • Outstanding research programs with major activities in: biometric systems; distributed computing and communications; health science engineering; electronic materials, devices and sensors; power systems; and software engineering and information assurance.
  • Major investments in new laboratory facilities such as: three endowed instructional laboratories; a recently completed 1000 square foot biometric data acquisition facility; 4000 square feet of new student office space to be completed in May 2005; a 3000 square foot clean room for nanotechnology research that will open in fall 2005.
What these pages cannot adequately convey is the uniquely student-centered environment that you will experience within our department. We focus on the learning experience because we strive to develop a strong information technology workforce for West Virginia and conduct research to stimulate economic development. To experience this spirit, you will have to visit us in person.

If I may be of service to you or facilitate your interactions with our department, please feel free to contact me via .
